1. IELTS 8 is an excellent score No doubt about it. The average scores for Academic and General Training modules are 6.5 and 6 respectively， as per the latest report by British Council (2017). 2. Your score is perfectly valid but there could be room for improvement with respect to speaking and writing given the recent changes to the exam. With Gt module， 5.5-6 was the range most students got into until recently. Speaking module used to have different bands depending on your home country（China 7+， India 6）but now they merge the results into one band from 5-9. There is also no longer a separate band for grammar and usage（6-9）； all mistakes in Grammar are reflected in Usage. All these changes make the new banding system more consistent across the board and should not affect anyone's ability to study or take the test. Just need to get used to the new thing.
